Some big targets for the Georgia Bulldogs will be in Athens (Ga.) this weekend for official visits and here is the very latest on each.
The Buzz: Brian Burns is, and has been a big target for the Dawgs. At one time late in the summer, it looked like Burns was close to committing to UGA. He decided to wait, and now it looks like he could take his recruitment to signing day. Georgia is battling in-state schools, Florida and Florida State. The Gators have had some momentum here since mid-fall and the Seminoles have always been in this race. Georgia has their chance this weekend. They will see him Friday morning in Plantation (Fla.), then host him and his mother over the weekend.
The Buzz: Elijah Holyfield is a Georgia commitment and he is all in with Smart and the new staff. He will go up to Athens, hang out, get to know the new staff, and likely spend a lot of time with new running backs coach, Dell McGee.
The Buzz: Tre Nixon is not only wanted by UGA, but needed. He is a playmaker with speed, hands, and competitive juices. New offensive coordinator Jim Chaney saw him twice in December and now he will spend 48 hours in Athens. Georgia is, and had been high on his list. Florida has made a push and it likely comes down to the Gators, the Dawgs, and Penn State.
The Buzz: Tyler Simmons is committed to Alabama, but Kirby Smart has told him that UGA is not going away. James Coley and Dell McGee met with Simmons Thursday and he is a priority. An athlete first who is developing into a top wide receiver. If Simmons flips his commitment, it will be to Georgia. This one is not over.
The Buzz: Jeawon Taylor was one of the first prospects to be offered a scholarship after Smart took over Georgia's football program. He has been committed to Florida since the summer, so he is a pretty strong — but, he has a connection with Smart, and UGA is in this one. This visit will be his first ever to Athens, so it will be a big one. Smart has made Taylor feel wanted by the new staff and he is on Flip Watch.
The Buzz: Lyndell Wilson says Florida is his No. 1 school while many close to him feel Alabama is the one all others are chasing. What is known to be factual is, he is down to Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. He plans to visit all three schools this month and the Dawgs are up first. Again, Smart is the why Georgia even has a chance here. It is going to be a very tough pull here, but when a kid visits a school, anything can happen. At this time, UGA is third.
The Buzz: Charlie Woerner is a big piece of the 2016 puzzle for me. He is a future star at Georgia. He is a long-time commitment, he is a Bulldog through and through, and you can bet Chaney will show him some ways he will be used during his visit this weekend. As strong of a UGA commit as there is.
Note: Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage kicker Oren Milstein is also taking an official visit this weekend. He is being recruited by UGA as a preferred walk-on at this time.
