Name to know: 2016 athlete Quintez Cephus
One name to keep an eye on is Straford Academy (GA) ATH Quintez Cephus. The 6’2 185-pound Cephus was known more in the community as a basketball star, but after an excellent junior season, the Wisonsin Badgers noticed and offered him a scholarship. After a visit to Wisconsin shortly after his offer, Cephus committed to the Badgers.
“Quintez is such a good athlete.” Stratford Academy Head Coach Mike Farriba said. “His recruitment was different than others because he didn’t get noticed until this year. He was all about basketball until he started getting some interest in football. Quintez was actually committed to play basketball at Furman before deciding to commit to Wisconsin for football.”
Farriba believes Cephus did not get the expose that other recruits might have got early in their recruitment.
“He wasn’t able to go to as many camps and 7 on 7 tournaments because of basketball, and he won’t be taking any official visits before Signing Day because of basketball.” Farriba said. “He did get to go up and participate at DawgNight this year, and he did really well. Some of the coaches pulled him off to the side to talk with him and coach him up a couple times. We thought that might lead to an offer but it didn’t. Coach Pruitt and Coach Hartley came by to him right after Richt was terminated, but of course they are no longer there.”
If Kirby Smart is looking for a back-up plan as we get closer to Signing Day, he needs to look at Cephus. Cephus played quarterback his junior season in a Wing-T sytle offense, and torched opposing t defenses on the ground all season. He was moved to wide receiver his senior season, totaling 42 catches for 860 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also recorded three interceptions on defense.
When I asked what position would suit him best in college, Farriba replied, “Any where. He’s that good of an athlete. I think most schools are recruiting him as an athlete, already knowing that his position last year was at receiver. He could really play anywhere though.”
When watching film, Cephus’ vertical leap, athletic awareness, and body control stand out the most. When carrying the ball he just glides through tackles, and does a great job of keeping his balance. He has big hands, and really stands out as soon as the ball is snapped. He’s a great athlete who excels all over the field, and it seems like a former Georgia head coach has already taken notice.
“Miami had some coaches come to see him this week, and Head Coach Mark Richt came in today to see him today.” Farriba said. “Miami, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech are all local schools that have offered him.”
Cephus can play receiver or defensive back at the next level, and possibly be a star on special teams. A name to keep an eye on if Coach Kirby Smart starts offering late.

As of January 12, 2016 - Not long after the announcement of Kirby smart taking over Georgia did David reveal the Dawgs were his new No. 1 school. Still, he is an Alabama legacy, so he will not be an easy pull out of the state of Alabama, but Georgia is a legit contender.
As of January 12, 2016 - The combination of Carter being a one-time Alabama commit, his interest in Georgia, and the need in the secondary for UGA, this is a big target. He knows Smart well, so we will see if that helps.
