Signing Day 2016 is only a few days away, but Georgia coach Kirby Smart and his staff received big news in the 2017 class when Westlake (GA) linebacker and Bulldog legacy Jaden Hunter committed to the Bulldogs.  Hunter becomes the third Georgia commitment in the 2017 class, along with four-star defensive back Richard LeCounte and four-star linebacker Breon Dixon.

When watching film, Hunter’s toughness and effort stand out the most.  He does a great job of chasing down plays that are not run to his side, and does a good job of getting after the quarterback.  Hunter is also a sure tackler, and has the ability to lay a big hit.

Listed at 6-foot-3, 208-pounds, Hunter could play either linebacker positions, and has the body type to grow into a defensive end later in his career.  He has good speed, and has a middle linebacker mentality of finding the football.

When rushing the passer, Hunter uses his quick hands and speed to get by the offensive lineman more so than his strength.  When stopping the run, he is fundamentally sound, and rarely gets pushed around by just one lineman.  He closes the gaps, helping him teammates to get easy tackles.

Hunter does need to add more weight before he gets to Athens, but he has plenty of time for that.  I would also like to see him in coverage situations more.  He struggled a bit in coverage during the Lassiter MVP camp last summer, but improved dramatically during Rising Seniors practice last month.

Look for Hunter to be a major recruiting contributor for Smart in the 2017 class.
