McKinney, who is considered the No. 115 overall player in the country and the No. 9 overall player in the Peach State, picked Alabama last fall in part because of his strong relationship with Kirby Smart.
“He's one of the coolest coaches I've met." McKinney said of Smart. "He's really cool to be around, he's crazy at times, but I like him. He cracks jokes a whole bunch, but when he's out on that field he's real serious, I can tell. He's a real cool guy.”
Now with Smart at UGA, McKinney said that things are “still the same” with his in-state school. Time will tell if that will change.
"Everything is really still the same for me and Georgia," said McKinney. "I had interest in Georgia when they offered me, so with coach Smart there now, it does not really change anything for me.”
A 4-star prospect, the scouting report on McKinney is that he’s going to have to develop physically and improve on his closing speed.
“McKinney has great ball skills,” Simmons said. “He tracks the ball well and really reads the eyes of the quarterback. He makes plays. He had 10 interceptions as a junior and returned two of those for touchdowns.”
