Macon LB names favorite.

Boston McConnell is one of the top middle linebackers in the south. He has been tough to track down this summer, so Ryan Jordan made his way over to the Northeast practice field to catch McConnell in action.

Boston McConnell is a big time linebacker from Northeast High School in Macon, GA. We caught up with the 6'1 223 pounder and he gave us an update on his favorite schools, best high school memories, and football in general.

"Georgia and Marshall is who I really like. For my five officials visits, they would probably go to Tennessee, Marshall, East Carolina, South Carolina, and Middle Tennessee. I've already been to Georgia, so I don't need to see it again."

What did McConnell like about Athens?

"There's just a whole lot of people. I liked going through the DawgWalk as well. My teammates Jeremy Johnson, and Gene Gibson took me with them. Georgia is probably recruiting me the hardest of anyone right now."

We asked McConnell what he likes about the other four schools on his list as well.

Marshall: "It's a nice school from what I hear. They send me lots of mail about how they get their players ready for games and stuff like that."

East Carolina: "I watched them play a few games on TV and I like how it was up and down the field. I think they won their league not too long ago also."

South Carolina: "Coach Holtz was the first guy to send me a letter as freshman. I still remember that."

Middle Tennessee: "I like the coaching staff, and they invite me to all their camps. They just seem really interested, and they tell everyone that they like me a lot."

Is Boston a fan of any one school?

"I like Miami and Texas. Even though Miami lost to Ohio State, I still like them. Georgia is my team though."

With McConnell being a Dawg fan, does that give UGA an advantage?

"Yeah, I'd say Georgia is the leader right now."

We thought we'd ask Boston what he remembers most about his past high school experiences, and what he loves about Friday nights.

"Just being a part of a team is great. When the lights come on, you're the star. I love that."

What does Boston think the best game he ever played in was?

"In 9th grade, I had 17 tackles and 8 assists against Wilkinson County. I was a starter ever since then."

Boston has been getting it done on the football field for many years, and he's working hard in the classroom to make sure he succeeds as well. Many schools have extended him a scholarship pending news about his SAT score, and McConnell hopes to take the test very soon. He currently sits with a 2.8 GPA, and is hoping to raise that number during his senior year.

"I want to get an education, and just succeed in life. That's my goal."

Boston has moved to inside linebacker after playing his first 3 years on the edge. The Raiders return only eight starters off a team that was one big play away from a trip to the Georgia Dome just a year ago. With replacements everywhere in the secondary, Boston will anchor the front seven once again and help form a very sturdy run defense. He will be the featured man in the middle, and should have an absolutely huge senior season. will keep you up to date on his progress right on through signing day.
