A name that has burst onto the recruiting scene recently has been Heard County (GA) quarterback Emory Jones. Jones currently holds offers from Mississippi State and Tennessee, and now the 6-foot-3 177-pound sophomore holds an offer from the Georgia Bulldogs.
"I was shocked but I was very excited." Jones said. "I was able to talk to head coach Kirby Smart personally and he said he wanted a quarterback who could run and he knows I can do that. He (Smart) and offensive coordinator Jim Chaney offered me together."
Jones is already one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the state of Georgia for the 2018 class, and he believes he can fit in with any style of offense at the next level, although he would prefer to run a "fast-paced offense or a spread offense" where he would have the choice to run or pass.
"The visit overall was amazing." Jones said. "I really enjoyed trying on the jerseys and bonding with the coaches. They showed a lot of interest in me. I loved everything about UGA."
Jones has been a busy young man this month, taking visits to both Auburn and Mississippi State recently. "I loved the atmosphere at Auburn." Jones said. "Most of the coaches interacted with me and showed me love. The facilities were great too."
Mississippi State got Jones' attention early in the process, and many feel like the Bulldogs of the west are one of the top teams on Jones' list. "I loved the atmosphere at Mississippi State." Jones said. "We talked about plays and things so I think they're leaning towards me committing there soon."
Mississippi State, Auburn, Tennessee, and Georgia are all in the mix early for this talented 2018 prospect.
