Dawg Post Recruiting Insider Report

Chad Simmons’ news and notes from around the recruiting world including updates on Cam Akers, Nate McBride and Breon Dixon.

Cam Akers was LIGHTS OUT Sunday in New Orleans at The Opening Regional.  He wore UGA gloves during the drills and competition after running a 4.44 time in the 40 yard dash.  He was invited to The Opening Finals.  I still hear Georgia is in a very good place with him and he plans to get back to Athens in the near future.  He has really connected with Dell McGee.

-----  ATH Keldrick Carper out of Plain Dealing, La. named Georgia and Texas A&M as his top two last week...  That has changed, but not in a bad way for UGA.  Notre Dame has come on recently and they have replaced the Aggies, but the Dawgs are right there still in the top two.  He loves Smart and Tucker, and as of right now, Georgia holds the edge.  He wants to play DB and UGA likes him there.

-----  I spoke briefly with Nate McBride this weekend around my travels and he loves Tucker and Schumann.  He was back at UGA for the second time in two weeks and the Dawgs continue to trend here.  I am still not sold that he holds out and commits late in the process — at this time, I just can't see him signing with anyone other than UGA.

-----  Breon Dixon was at Florida a few weeks ago...  He was at Auburn this past weekend...  He is expected to be at UGA this weekend for G-Day.  This kid LOVES the process and he is going to have fun with it and take his visits, but his heart is with Georgia.  He is going to say things to reporters that may make you question that, but Georgia is where he wants to go to school.  I am not saying other schools have NO SHOT, but at this time, I know he is recruiting for UGA behind the scenes, and that he loves Kirby and the Dawgs.

-----  Georgia offered 2018 WR Jacob Copeland out of Pine Forest (Fla.) on Sunday night.  That was within an hour or two of him having a great day at The Opening in New Orleans.  He is a physical wideout with good speed, and one thing I like a lot about him, is his competitiveness.  He loves to get reps, he loves to compete, and he is going to be a solid four star.  He is set to visit Notre Dame in a couple of weeks, but expect him at UGA sooner than later.

-----  Speaking of receivers, UGA is in play for plenty of them...  They offered a new one for 2017 last week out of South Carolina.  Austin Connor quickly made the trip to Athens and he spent hours on the campus Saturday.  He said, "The visit was great and it is beautiful at Georgia."  The Dawgs are now considered to be a top three school for Connor with South Carolina and Tennessee, both have offered him.  He is a guy who is a weapon on special teams and wide receiver at a strong 6-feet, 180 pounds.

-----  William Poole will be back at UGA for the spring game this weekend.  That is BIG.  After his visit to UF last month, he pulled back from his plan to commit.  He was at UGA last week and he will be back this weekend.  I still like UGA's chances, but he is still saying he is nowhere close to committing and that he will visit Florida and Georgia officially first.
