Netori Johnson Commits to UGA: What It Means

All commitments mean something, and Netori Johnson’s commitment is big literally and figuratively.

The four-star Cedar Grove offensive lineman is the third former Alabama commit that Kirby Smart has taken from the Tide since taking over. The other two players, WR Tyler Simmons and QB Jake Fromm, were major flips from Alabama to Georgia.

This time Kirby slowly took Johnson away from Alabama. The massive offensive lineman was committed to Alabama in January. Now, three months later, he’s committed to Georgia.

Georgia very much has its sights on signing five of the top offensive linemen in the state: No. 77 overall player D'antne Demery, No. 139 Andrew Thomas, No. 187 Tony Gray, No. 184 Netori Johnson and unranked Justin Shaffer.

When was the last time Georgia signed an offensive linemen in the top 100? When was the last time Georgia signed every single top offensive linemen in the state? When was the last time Georgia signed the top offensive lineman in the state?

Its not been common, and its prevented Georgia from winning more titles. To be sure, and if you are reading this you already know, none of the players listed above have signed with UGA. But two of the five are saying already that they will sign with UGA. The other three are considered either UGA leans or major leans.

In other words - Sam Pittman is making major upgrades on the offensive line. That Pittman has done so well so fast is pretty impressive. Yes, he’s got an unreal reputation, but its one thing to have a reputation - its another thing to actually live up to that reputation on the recruiting trail.
