First, this stops the bleeding of losing 5-star ATH Demetris Robertson earlier in the day. Getting Blount, a 4-star recover from Pace Academy in Atlanta, is a shot in the arm for recruiting for the Bulldogs, who seriously need wide receivers.
Receiver has been a place where UGA has struggled for a long time, and getting the top receiver in the state (according to Scout) is a major accomplishment. When was the last time Georgia signed the top receiver in Georgia? The Bulldogs now stand a chance not only to get the top receiver in the state, but very possibly the top two in Georgia. That’s a major jump forward for the Bulldogs if we are being honest.
Of the top 13 players in the state four are now committed to Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs - and Georgia very well could snag nine of the top 13 players in the state. As Robertson’s commitment to Cal today proves - there’s no certainty when it comes to the top players in the state. But getting around nine or ten of the top 13 players in the state is about where Georgia should be if it truly wants to be successful on a national level.
“Blount has very good size,” Scout national recruiting analyst Chad Simmons said. “He is very fluid and can catch the ball underneath or get behind defenders. There is a lot to like about this talented wideout. He is sneaky fast. He looks very smooth and fluid when he runs his routes. He can improve on getting in and out of his breaks and just being consistent with his hands. Has the skill-set to develop into one of the top receivers in 2017.”
The questions today are as follows: A. Is Blount the start of the landslide heading UGA’s way in recruiting in 2017? Because it feels that way. B. Is Robertson done with UGA for sure? I’m not sure I know the answer to that - I’m not sure anyone does.
