Legge's Thoughts: 2016 Mississippi St Preview

HOOVER, Ala. – Here's a look at Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen and the Bulldogs heading into the 2016 season.

Last season: 9-4, (4-4 SEC)

Last game vs. UGA: UGA 24, MSU 10 in Athens 2011

Series Record: UGA leads 17-6

Last five meetings vs. UGA: UGA 4, MSU 1

Most memorable Georgia win: 1997 – Georgia pounds State 47-0 and in the process announces that the red and black is back as a force in the SEC.

Most painful Georgia loss: 1974 – Georgia loses 38-14 to State in Jackson – the biggest loss to State in school history.

Legge’s Thoughts: State had a pretty good record last season, but much like UGA, many of their wins came against very week foes (Auburn, Kentucky, Missouri, Southern Miss, Northwestern State, Troy and Louisiana Tech).

That was good enough for 5th place in the SEC West. So where does State go from here? Outstanding college QB Dak Prescott is gone, so that’s going to be difficult to deal with. The good news, according to ESPN’s David Ching is that: “State faces the easiest schedule of any Western Division team.”

Its hard to see the Bulldogs figuring out how to win, or even compete, to win the SEC West this call. If LSU and Alabama are as good as everyone is saying, Arkansas continues to improve and Ole Miss doesn’t slip nearly as much as folks might think… that leaves State with very few options to climb their way to the top.
