Last season: 8-5, (4-4 SEC)
Last game vs. UGA: UGA 44, A&M 20 at Shreveport in 2009
Series Record: A&M leads 3-2
Last five meetings vs. UGA: UGA 2, A&M 3
Most memorable Georgia win: 1980 – Herschel Walker and the eventual national champs blast the Aggies 42-0 in Athens.
Most painful Georgia loss: 1950 – Not that memorable really, but the 5-2-3 A&M Aggies blew out the 6-2-3 Bulldogs 40-20 in the President's Cup Bowl in College Park, Md.
Legge’s Take: Just after the 2012 season it felt like Texas A&M was about to take off. A hotshot quarterback, a trending head coach and money and facilities for days. That hasn’t really transpired, however.
Entering the fall of 2016, the Aggies seem a long way away from where they were just after the 2012 season. Since 2013 Kevin Sumlin and A&M have not won more than four SEC contests and have failed to win ten games.
There’s little doubt that whatever momentum A&M had coming into the league four years ago is now gone. Reality has set in, and its not so easy winning in the SEC as it appeared to be in year one. Playing quarterback roulette probably wasn’t the best way to get ready for the season, either.
A&M had better be ready for a huge season opener, too, as UCLA is no joke. A loss to the Bruins will put a heap of pressure on Sumlin the rest of the way. Each month has a challenging game (or a few) as well. Sept. - UCLA, Auburn and Arkansas; Oct. - Tennessee and Alabama; Nov. - Ole Miss and LSU.
Needless to say this is a challenging year for the Aggies and Sumlin.
