Nick Chubb and Sony Michel, UGA’s top returning running backs, enter the 2016 season recovering from major injuries - Chubb a knee injury, and Michel a broken arm.
“There’s a lot of unknown on Sony,” Smart said. “I don;t think we will know until the first or second scrimmage on him. He was in the hospital for a week and was happy to get out.
Michel suffered the injury just before the Forth of July. Doctors have told Smart that surgery was successful. For Chubb the hurdle may be getting tackled for the first time since his injury in October.
“The big thing for him will be full-blown contact,” Smart said. “The psychological aspect of taking that first hit and tackle. That’s what we preparing him for, but he won’t have any limitations coming into fall camp.”
