Kirby: "Very Comfortable" in New Role

HOOVER, Ala. - UGA coach Kirby Smart said that he's settling into his new role as head man in Athens.

Looking composed and confident, Smart declared, “I am very comfortable in the seat I’m in now”.

Obviously the pressure that comes with being the head coach is different from anything he is used to.

“I will put more pressure on myself to win than any fan will, but you can’t focus on that pressure alone. You have to use that energy wisely and spin it into something productive.”

Many UGA fans will be hopeful that Smart can ooze some of the same success that Alabama coach Nick Saban has accumulated in his tenure in Tuscaloosa. However, he knows it is important to do it his own way as well.  When asked how much of Saban’s philosophy he will take with him.

“You become the same philosophically or he wouldn’t have left me alone (with the defense)," the first-year coach said. "You find that balance as you go along and I have to find the medium and that balance to be happy with.”

“I’d love to take some of his players,” Smart quipped.

With fall camp looming in the near future for his team, it will allow the forecast for the coming season to clear up.

“Fall camp is an opportunity to test the team and push them to the limits to find out what we’re made of," he said.

He will find out quick what the Bulldogs have got against the Tar Heels of North Carolina in the Georgia Dome on September 3rd.
