ATHENS - Andrew Stephens' notes and observations from today's practice in Athens...

For the first time since Mo Smith has been back, the defense worked as a cohesive unit in shell drills. Quincy was still in a walking boot, so tough to tell how the defense will be definitively, but we see a solid preview of potential depth charts.

DEFENSIVE LINE

-1st team: Trent Thompson, DaQuan Hawkins

-2nd team: Michail Carter, Tyler Clark

-Smart getting on DaQuan Hawkins for being too slow

-Atkins in full pads

LINEBACKERS

-1st team: Roquan Smith, Natrez Patrick, Davin Bellamy, Lorenzo Carter

-2nd team: Rashad Roundtree, Reggie Carter, Chuks Amaechi, D'Andre Walker

SECONDARY

-1st team: CBJuwan Briscoe, CBMalkomm Parrish, FSDominck Sanders, SSAaron Davis, STARRico McGraw

-2nd team: CBDeAndre Baker, CBMecole Hardman, FSKirby Choates, FSReggie Wilkerson, STARMaurice Smith

-Quincy still in leg boot and riding bike

-AD at working at 1st team safety in his absence (he will probably serve as nickel back when Mauger is healthy)

-Juwan Briscoe still in non contact jersey

OFFENSIVE LINE

-Working with TEs in blocking scheme combinations

RUNNING BACKS

-Sony still in non contact jersey

-Chubb with 1s

-Sony with 2s

-Holyfield with 3s - getting criticized for messing up reads

-Working heavily on ball security drills

QUARTERBACKS

-Parker McCleod in pads

-Jacob with 1s

-Greyson with 2s

-Brice with 3s

-Working on a lot of passes/screens out of the backfield

WIDE RECEIVERS

-Working on downfield blocking

-Group seems to be deeper than at first look

--Godwin, Chigbu, Stanley, Wims, Carter, Simmons, Ridley all appear they can play

TIGHT ENDS

-Woerner out of boot, but still working on bike
