The big match-up this weekend is obvious. The Grayson Rams host the powerhouse IMG Academy from Florida, with both teams featuring some of the best players in the country. There were quite a few top recruits who transferred to Grayson this offseason, making this team look almost unbeatable on paper. That being said, I'm not sure there is a more talented team in the country than IMG. This is a program that pumps out D1 players every year, and will continue to do so. Five-star linebacker Dylan Moses leads the defense for the Ascenders, along with four-star Georgia commit Robert Beal at defensive end. Center prospect Cesar Ruiz, safety Isaiah Pryor, and wide receiver Jhamon Ausbon are all Scout 100 players at this time.
The Rams will be led by Georgia target Deangelo Gibbs. The talented defensive back has great size at 6-foot-2 204-pounds and is ranked as the 12th best player in the country. Georgia is sitting in a very good spot right now for the five-star athlete. Another Scout 100 player, athlete Jamyest Williams, will be an impact player throughout the game. Expect to see him on offense and special teams if they need a spark. While Williams recently visited Georgia one last time, many feel like Williams will choose South Carolina tomorrow before the game.
Linebackers Breon Dixon and Owen Pappoe will be the guys in the middle trying to stop the talented IMG offense. Dixon is a former Georgia commit, and Pappoe is one of the top sophomores in the country. He is already a national recruit and a major Georgia target.
Another game to look out for is Harrison vs. Rome. Harrison QB Justin Fields continues to improve, and should have a big junior season this fall. Tennessee just recently offered the three-star prospect, as has Penn State, Duke, North Carolina, N.C State, and Vanderbilt. The 6-foot-3 209-pounder should see his recruitment continue to pick up the more he plays.
For Rome, the guy to look for is Georgia commit Adam Anderson. Anderson is a long and athletic outside linebacker who can really rush the passer. At 6-foot-5 220-pounds, the four-star sure looks the part, and has those long arms that help him get around opposing lineman. Anderson is the 2nd ranked defensive end prospect in Georgia for the 2018 class.
After a tough loss at the Georgia Dome last weekend, the Colquitt County Packers play a strong American Heritage (FL) team. The Packers are led by four-star linebacker J.J Peterson, who is a major target in the 2018 class.
Pace Academy, led by Georgia commits Trey Blount and Andrew Thomas, travel to West Forsyth to play my hometown Wolverines. West Forsyth has has a solid team the past couple of years, but they will have a tough time stopping the run against lineman Andrew Thomas and Jamaree Salyer. While I was not impressed with the quarterback play from Pace during their scrimmage a few weeks ago, wide receiver Trey Blount can make up for it once he gets the ball. Blount is ranked as the second-best receiver prospect in Georgia for the 2018 class.
