Eason at No. 1 QB During UGA Practice

ATHENS - Jacob Eason was running with the No. 1 unit today - a shift from the last few days.

It could be a rotational thing today, or it could mean that Eason is going to run more with the No. 1 unit during the game - or even start. Eason produced a good first effort against North Carolina on Saturday going 8 for 12 for 131 yards and a TD. It appeared that starter Greyson Lambert was rotating with Brice Ramsey during drill work.

Following the workout, selected offensive players visited with the media and said they were looking forward to playing in Sanford Stadium versus Nicholls on Saturday.

“Everyone is excited for the next game and to play at home in front of 92,000 fans,” said junior wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie. “We’ve been working on special teams and all the details for that as well as offense and defense.”

Earlier in the day, Georgia’s Kirby Smart participated in the SEC Coaches weekly media teleconference and said the Bulldogs are focusing on getting better after last Saturday’s season-opening win in Atlanta over No. 22 North Carolina.

“I’m excited where we are as a team, but we have to show a lot of improvement from the first game to the second game,” said Smart. “I’m pleased with how the kids responded to us challenging them to practice better and play better technique. We were fortunate to get away with a few things like our kickoff coverage (against UNC) and our special teams have to do better.

“I’m looking for improvement in all areas,” Smart added. “In special teams, we need to get better in our coverage units, on the defensive front, attacking blockers, communicate better on offense and getting in and out of the huddle. On the offensive line, we need to play with more power and consistency. On our corner play, don’t let the receivers get behind you. We were very fortunate not to give up big plays in the passing game.”

The Bulldogs play host to the Colonels (0-0) with kickoff scheduled for 12:01 p.m. on the SEC Network.
