Running Back is a position of concern for the Georgia Bulldogs in the coming season, but come this time next year, it's going to be a position of strength. Thomas Brown has already made a pledge to Georgia, and running back / fullback Danny Ware will be making his way to Athens this January after taking a short detour to Hargrave this fall.
Ware signed with Georgia in the Class of 2003. He fell just 20 points shy on his SAT, and he should have no trouble making it to Athens in the winter. At 5-11 and a ripped 210 pounds, he will immediately add depth to the backfield when he arrives on campus.
Hargrave did a live 11 vs. 11 Passing Drill last Thursday when I was there, and while I couldn't get a feel for how Ware runs the ball, I got a chance to see everything else. Ware has excellent hands out of the backfield, and he is a fearless blocker. The stacked defensive line for Hargrave was having its way with the offensive line most of the day. On one play superstar defensive end Terry Hunter made his way around the tackle untouched, and Ware met him head on before Hunter could get to the quarterback. Despite giving up roughly six inches in height and 40 pounds, Ware stood Hunter up and kept him off of the quarterback.
After the practice it was Ware that spoke up.
"Defense, keep it up," shouted Ware. "Y'all are making us better out here today. You stepped it up today, and now we need to step it up."
Ware had no trouble completing the fitness test before the practice of sixteen 100 yards runs in 15 seconds or less, or roughly the exact same fitness test that is given to the skill players at Georgia prior to the season.
I caught up with Ware before the practice, and he talked about why he committed to Georgia, and what the Dawg Nation can expect in just a few short months when he reports to campus.
