Newton (GA) defensive tackle Darnell Jefferies is a name to know for the 2018 class. The 6-foot-4 265-pound Jefferies is a little light right now for a defensive tackle, but that has not stopped teams like Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, and Tennessee from offering him. He plays the game violently and can really fire of the ball. He also shows good footwork and uses his hands well also to get off blocks.
Jeffereis visited Georgia last month for their game against Louisiana Lafayette and was able to speak with defensive line coach Tracy Rocker and defensive coordinator Mel Tucker, as well as tour the campus. When I asked him what he's looking for in a school he replied, "A school that offers me to get the best out of me in the classroom and on the field on Saturdays."
Jefferies plans to attend multiple camps this offseason. I'm expecting more schools to start pulling the trigger on him soon.
Defensive line coach Tracy Rocker went by Salem High recently to check on 2019 athlete Keevan Bailey and 2019 defensive end Devon Reaves. Bailey is the son of Georgia legend Champ Bailey who plays wide receiver and defensive back for Salem. Reaves is a solid 6-foot-3 205-pounds and will be a Division 1 prospect sooner than later. Reaves had 7 sacks last season as a sophomore. Artemus McCorkle is another talented player for Salem who is getting strong interest from Georgia Tech, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina, and South Florida. He's a prospect to know at defensive back in the 2019 class.
Kirby Smart and Glenn Schumann visited Frederica Academy to check on 2019 stars Jashawn Sheffield and Jaylin Simpson. Both are elite players with offers from major programs across the country. Both visited Ohio State recently and had a great time. Georgia is very much in the picture with Jashawn, Richard LeCounte's cousin, but the Bulldogs are behind Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson, Florida, and possibly Tennessee. Simpson has a top group of Ohio State, North Carolina, and Miami.
Smart and Schumann also stopped by Brunswick High School while they were in the area to check on commit D'Antne Demery and 2019 lineman Warren McClendon. Sharrod Frazier is also a name to know for Brunswick at safety and outside linebacker who could see his recruitment pick up soon.
