Dawg Post Wednesday Recruiting Update:

Dawg Post gives the latest on today's recruiting news.

One of the top ranked JUCO defensive backs, Lonnie Johnson, will make his college decision on Tuesday at 6 pm. Johnson was recently offered by Georgia and will take his official visit this weekend. The 6-foot-3 205-pound Johnson has the size the staff is looking for at defensive back.

The Bulldogs have two commits already in safety Richard LeCounte and cornerback William Poole, but there are still multiple targets still deciding in the 2017 class. Deangelo Gibbs has a spot open for him no matter how tight the numbers get, so does Tray Bishop. Like Chad Simmons already reported, Bishop is committed to Auburn but it's looking like a Georgia/Florida battle for him at the moment. Jamyest Williams is another top target at cornerback but I don't see the South Carolina commit signing with Georgia in the end. I do not see Roswell safety Xavier McKinney signing with Georgia

Cornerback prospects Ameer Speed and Eric Stokes are names to know as well. Speed has the size at 6-foot-3 195-pounds and Stokes is the track star that will bring elite speed wherever he goes. Numbers are tight so it will be interesting to see it all play out.

From the 2019 class. I was able to speak briefly with Hillgrove athlete Jaylen McCollough. He is recovering from a turf toe injury but is getting ready for track and offseason workouts. I've been told that while most teams are recruiting him at defensive back, Ohio State is recruiting him to play both sides of the ball, and Clemson really likes him at running back. He will be visiting Michigan, Michigan State, and Ohio State in February. Georgia is still very much in the mix for one of the top defenders in the 2019 class.

Another 2019 prospect, Charles Thomas of Langston Hughes, spoke to DawgPost about his recruitment.

"I am looking for a school that feels like home everytime I step on campus." Thomas said. "Distance does not matter to me. I am originally from California so I am not afraid to travel west. I want to be a part of a program where players are close and the chemistry is there."

Clemson, Michigan, Tennessee, West Virgina, North Carolina, Maryland, and Tulane have all offered with more on the way. Thomas is a hard hitting sophomore with a true eye for the football. Georgia will eventually offer Thomas who is one of the top linebacker prospects in the south for 2019. He is close friends with many top 2019 recruits including Grayson linebacker Owen Pappoe.
