UGA's Roquan Smith to Miss Spring

ATHENS - Roquan Smith is set to miss a large portion if not all of UGA’s upcoming spring football practices.

Smith ended the 2016 season with a surge. The rising junior is coming off the top two performances of his career - back-to-back 13-tackle performances against Georgia Tech and Texas Christian in the Liberty Bowl.

But multiple sources have confirmed that Smith requires surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle in his chest, and procedure will likely keep him out of all of UGA’s spring practices. Smith was the team’s leading tackler returning. He ended the 2016 season with 95 tackles.

The Bulldogs will now enter spring football without two of their top returning defenders. Earlier this month, UGA announced that Trent Thompson was withdrawing from school for the semester. Thompson was named the Overall MVP and Defensive MVP of the Liberty Bowl.
