Jaycee Horn (SCOUT)

2018 DB Jaycee Horn talks recruiting:

Dawg Post caught up with one of the top defensive back prospects in the state, Alpharetta athlete Jaycee Horn, to talk recruiting and where teams stand.

Alpharetta (GA) defensive back Jaycee Horn has seen his recruitment explode over the past two month. Schools like Alabama, Ohio State, Georgia, Tennessee, and many more have turned up the heat in a big way for the versatile defensive back. He’s made several trips recently, and is in the process of narrowing down his list.

“I visited Tennessee this weekend.” Horn said. “It was like a family atmosphere. I got a chance to meet with all of the coaches separately for about 15-20 minutes including defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and head coach Butch Jones. I definitely feel like they are making me a priority up there. They just try to make you a better. They just try to make you a better person all around. They explain how your life at Tennessee can be after football.”

This was Horn’s second trip to Knoxville, with his first coming from Tennessee’s Jr. Day. Horn took another recent visit as well, this time to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

“Their resume speaks for itself.” Horn said. “I think I have a pretty good relationship with defensive backs coach Derrick Ansley and they are recruiting me hard also. They showed me the trophies in the office and I know you’ll be one of the best at your position when you go there because they develop their players so well. They’re an amazing school. I was shocked meeting head coach Nick Saban for a little bit but it was cool.”

The Bulldogs are also in the race for one of the south’s best defensive backs.

“I visited Georgia about two weeks ago.”  Horn said. “I got a chance to talk with all the coaches. It was a really cool atmosphere. I talked with head coach Kirby Smart and he had some pretty good things to say. I like Georgia a lot. They think I can play safety or cornerback so I think that would be useful and I’ll fit in there. I went up there to watch a spring practice so I did that, and I talked with defensive coordinator Mel Tucker to speak about how I would fit in there. The facilities were great, the new indoor field and they player room and all was great. I like Georgia a lot.”

Horn is really enjoying the recruiting process right now, taking his visits and developing relationships with staffs across the country. While Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee have his attention at the moment, they aren’t the only ones.

“South Carolina is recruiting me really hard.” Horn said. “Wake Forest is recruiting me hard. I talk with Missouri, Florida, and Florida State as well.  I’m looking for a school where I feel comfortable at. My relationship with the coaches is important and going somewhere where I’m wanted and needed.”

Horn plans to narrow his list down at the end of the spring. He was very impressive at last weekend’s Under Armour Camp, showing great ball skills length, and toughness.
