Over the past few weeks, multiple tight end targets have emerged in the south, and the Georgia staff has their eye on one new target in particular, Marist (GA) tight end John FitzPatrick. The Georgia native has picked up some major offers recently, including one from the home state Georgia Bulldogs. After receiving the offer, FitzPatrick made sure to visit Athens as soon as he could.
“”I loved my visit” FitzPatrick said. “I was with tight ends coach Shane Beamer for a large part of the day and spoke with head coach Kirby Smart also. The coolest part was when I got to walk to the middle of the field while they were warming up and coach Smart told Jacob Eason t wait and he said hello to me. It really meant a lot.”
While FitzPatrick has not had a Georgia offer very long, he is already establishing a strong connection with the staff.
“I love how coach (Shane) Beamer really cares about the players he recruits. He took the time to meet everyone I was with which meant a lot. Head coach (Kirby) Smart mentioned to me he wants me to visit with the catholic center which also shows that it is not just about football with them when we talk.
The staff plans to take two tight ends in the 2018 class, and the 6-foot-7 225-pounder has quickly become one of their top targets. He doesn’t catch the ball much playing for a run-heavy Marist team, but FitzPatrick showed he has reliable hands at both the Atlanta Opening and Under Armour Camp this spring.
