ATHENS ----- Senior center Steve Thomas, a starter for much of the past two seasons, has been dismissed from the University of Georgia basketball team, according to an announcement today by head coach Dennis Felton.
Thomas, a 6-8 native of Carrollton, Ga., was the Bulldogs' third-leading scorer last season, averaging 10.2 points and 7.3 rebounds in 20 games. In three seasons he averaged 6.4 points and 5.3 rebounds, shooting 46 percent from the field and playing 21.7 minutes per contest.
"Steve has been unable to operate at the standards which we've set for Georgia basketball," Felton said. "I'm disappointed because I know what great benefit our program can be for a young man like Steve. But we wish him nothing but the best as he moves forward."
