4-Star Chris Smith Commits to UGA

ATHENS - UGA got a commitment from 4-star Hapeville Charter DB Chris Smith on Monday, ending three months of the Bulldogs going without a position player committing to the program.

"The recruiting process is one of the greatest things any high school football player could experience,” Smith said in a statement on Twitter. “I am officially committed to the University of Georgia.”

The Bulldogs had long been considered the favorite for Smith, even though UGA had to fight off a late surge by Michigan. South Carolina, Ohio State, Alabama, USC and Oregon also offered the Atlanta prospect.

Smith said recently that UGA has been “straightforward” and recruiting him with “a lot of enthusiasm.” He also added that the Bulldogs have been recruiting him the hardest.

“He’s is a physical, aggressive cornerback,” according to the scouting report on Scout. “He is fluid in and out of his backpedal and instinctive.”

Smith is the third commitment of the class of 2018 - including kicker Jake Camarda and Florida linebacker Donovan Georges.
