Becton, listed at 6-4, 240 pounds, is considered a project by insiders. The news of Becton’s commitment took much of the recruiting industry by surprise.
“First off I would like to thank my mother, and my whole family for supporting my decision,” Becton tweeted. “I would like to thank all the college coaches who offered me, and my whole high school coaching staff as well as my teammates but definitely I would like to thank the man upstairs. I am officially committed to the University of Georgia.”
Becton said he’s been comfortable with UGA for a while. He told Scout’s Matt DeBary that the Bulldogs have been his favorite “for months.” Becton has only visited Athens once - for G Day a few weeks back. He spent time with Jeremiah Holloman after the spring game. He sat with Dutchtown DB Trey Dean during the event.
“I called Coach beamer and Coach Smart at 7 PM,” he said. “I picked UGA over Virginia Tech and Maryland, but UGA was always my number one school.”
The Bulldogs told Becton that he will be a hybrid outside linebacker and defensive end in the future. He is the third member of the Bulldogs’ class of 2018.
