Report: Zeier to try out for the Patriots

790 the Zone just reported that former Georgia quarterback Eric Zeier is currently on a plane to Boston and will try out for the New England Patriots today.

Starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe is in the hospital with internal injuries. The Boston Globe is reporting that Bledsoe has a collapsed lung, internal bleeding, and a concussion and could be out for the season.

Ironically, the hit on Bledsoe that caused the injuries was by Jets and former Georgia linebacker Mo Lewis late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game that was won by the Jets 10-3.

Zeier was drafted in 1995 by the Cleveland Browns, who were coached by current Patriots head coach Bill Belichick

Zeier was released by the Atlanta Falcons before the regular season. He was acquired via trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was expected to provide backup support for Chris Chandler.

Once the Falcons drafted Virginia Tech star Mike Vick with the number one overall selection, Zeier's days in Atlanta were numbered. Vick has been splitting time with Chandler during the first two games of this season and rushed for a two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal a 24-16 victory over the Carolina Panthers.
