Georgia had an ugly first possession, starting on its 17 and losing
seven on the first play. The Bulldogs - to word it so familiarly -
settled for three after recovering a fumble on UT's 24. But the Bulldogs
were sharp, versatile, and balance in a scoring drive that ended early
in the second quarter as Georgia's defense began a game-long control of
Key stat: Georgia had five plays of 10 yards or more and managed just
G: Billy Bennett 32 field goal, 6:48. Drive: 4 plays, 9 yards, 1:20.
Key plays: UT fumble by Cedric Houston recovered by Kedric Golston on
the Vols' 24; holding nullifies Tyson Browning 19 run; Damien Gary 11
pass from David Greene on 3rd-and-12.

Greene threw one of his best passes of the year on the 11-yard score
to Michael Johnson on the second play of the quarter. Momentum from UT's
immediate answer on a 90-yard TD pass - courtesy of Mark Jones
outmuscling Decory Bryant - lasted about five minutes until a UGA field
goal. Sean Jones 92-yard return of a fumble to end the first half was a
wild - and game-clinching - end to the first half.
Key stat: UT was still unable to get a running game going, getting
four yards on seven tries for a half total of 24 yards on 13 carries.
G: Michael Johnson 11 pass from Greene (Bennett kick), 14:15. Drive:
12 plays, 74 yards, 4:43. Key plays: Browning 14 pass from Greene on
2nd-and-21 screen pass; Browning 11 pass from Greene on another screen;
Jeremy Thomas 20 screen pass from Greene; Greene 7 run; Browning 8 pass

return; Davis loses one on first play.

plays: Gary 16 punt return; Michael Cooper 8 run; Ben Watson 18 pass
from Greene on 3rd-and-7; Georgia delay penalty on 3rd-and-7.
Georgia 13, Tennessee 7
G: Sean Jones 92 fumble return (Bennett kick), 0:00. Drive: None. Key
play: Georgia roughing the passer penalty after 10-yard gain after drive
started at the UT five; Georgia late hit penalty; Clausen stopped on
quick-count keeper on 2nd-and-goal at the 1 with 7 seconds left; UT FB
Troy Fleming dislodged ball from Clausen while going to block on
3rd-and-goal from the one, Jones picking it up after a scramble at the
end of an 11-play, 82-yard drive.
Georgia 20, Tennessee 7
UGA's defense kept momentum by stopping UT on the first drive after
one first down. A big 4th-and-one gamble by Georgia kept alive a
Vol-crushing scoring drive during which the Bulldogs converted on 3rd
and 6, 3, and 7. If that score didn't end it, the touchdown after the
Odell Thurman interception - as David Pollack hit Clausen - did.
Key stat: Tennessee ran 13 plays for 14 yards, compared to 25 plays for
163 yards by Georgia.
G: Michael Cooper 6 run (Bennett kick), 9:09. Drive: 14 plays, 83
yards, 4:30.Key plays: Watson 19 pass from Greene on first play; Johnson

G: Browning 8 run (Bennett kick), 7:36. Drive: 3 plays, 5 yards, 1:22.
Key plays: Odell Thurman 26 interception return on first play of UT
Georgia 34, Tennessee 7.
G: Kregg Lumpkin 22 run (Bennett kick), 6:34. Drive: 1 play, 22 yards,
:10. Key play: Robert Geathers interception of a pass batted by Kedric
Golston, following by a scuffle between the teams.
Georgia 41, Tennessee 7
The only noteworthy thing might've been Pollack getting a sack after
drawing yet another holding call on a Volunteer lineman. Otherwise, the
clock should've kept running.
Key stat: Tennessee's backups out gained Georgia's backups by one yard
despite running three more plays.
T: Bret Smith 15 pass from C.J. Leak (Wilhoit kick), :46. Drive: 5
plays, 43 yards, 2:20. Key plays: Roughing penalty on Georgia on a
4th-and-2 incomplete pass.
