Southern Football rankings: Showdown Saturday

After nailing 80% of his picks last week Dean Legge comes back to give you the correct picks again.

Georgia vs. Florida
South Carolina at Ole Miss
Florida State at Notre Dame
Miami at Virginia Tech

23. North Carolina – even with as well as UNC played last week against Clemson I cant take them.

Straight up: Maryland

Points: Off

Move: same

22. Mississippi State – nothing much to say.

Off this week

Move: -1

21. Vanderbilt – Vandy competed in the 4th quarter against Carolina.

Off this week

Move: +1

20. Duke – This seems like sort of an unfair SEC vs. ACC match up.

Straight up: Tennessee

Points: Duke (+26)

Move: same

19. Wake Forest – after the beating that Wake took in Tally, they won't be ready to get past Clemson. Their season has gone down hill fast.

Straight up: Clemson

Points: take Clemson (PICK)

Move: -2

18. Kentucky – I have no idea why this line is so close. Arkansas may be struggling but Kentucky quit after their loss to Florida.

Straight up: Arkansas

Points: take Arkansas (-3.5)

Move: same

17. South Carolina – This is a winnable game for the Cocks. Holtz needs to beat the Rebels in order for me to think about picking them at all the rest of the season. Carolina heads into another brutal November schedule.

Straight up: Ole Miss

Points: take South Carolina (+7.5)

Move: -1

16. NC State – I don't think that NC State is as good as Virginia. But then again in the ACC it's a total war for the Gator Bowl slot each week. This is just another game that will determine which team will get there.

Straight up: Virginia

Points: take Virginia (PICK)

Move: -1

15. Alabama – tough loss to Tennessee.

Off this week

Move: +4

14. Clemson – If Bowden can't beat Wake I don't see him returning to Clemson next season. He needs this win to get to a good record. Carolina and Florida State provide stiff competition down the stretch. Winning on the road sets up a possible upset in the making when the Noles come to Tiger town. Will it happen?

Straight up: Clemson

Points: take Clemson (PICK)

Move: -1

13. Virginia – They are better than NC State, but will they prove it?

Straight up: Virginia

Points: take Virginia (PICK)

Move: +1

12. Maryland – even with the difficult loss at Tech, Maryland can still get to a solid bowl game by being steady at the end of the season. North Carolina is horrid.

Straight up: Maryland

Points: Off

Move: -4

11. Arkansas – Kentucky is just what the Hogs need to get back on track. They won't win the West but they can get to a respectable bowl with a few more wins.

Straight up: Arkansas

Points: take Arkansas (-3.5)

Move: -1

10. Virginia Tech – So there went the national title. But, and this is a J-Lo sized but, Tech can get the signature win of their season this weekend when Miami rolls into Blacksburg. It won't happen; but I would love to see it.

Straight up: Miami

Points: Miami (-4)

Move: -8 (Mover of the week)

9. Tennessee – Fulmer and company hold on in several overtimes to beat a bad Bama team. Duke is much worse than Bama. Will Tennessee prove it? I don't think that they will; take Duke and the boatload of points.

Straight up: Tennessee

Points: Duke (+26)

Move: +2

8. Georgia Tech – certainly one of the better teams in the ACC, Tech is making a nice run at the Gator Bowl. My how North Ave would rejoice with a win over mighty Georgia at the end of the season.

Off this week

Move: +4

7. Ole Miss – the only undefeated team in the SEC is Ole Miss. Who would have thought? Now the Rebels must avoid a late-season collapse that they seem to have mastered over the last couple of seasons.

Straight up: Ole Miss

Points: take South Carolina (+7.5)

Move: +2

6. Auburn – Now the Tigers need a little help to win the West and they probably won't get it. However, the Tigers can still end up in a New Year's Bowl with wins over Ole Miss, Georgia, and Bama. All three wins are possible.

Straight up: Auburn

Points: Off

Move: -2

5. Florida State – I don't like this game in terms of points because Notre Dame has this strange magic over Florida State for some reason; it seems. I also don't think that FSU is that great. 11 points is too many to give a home team, particularly when they have a little help from the big guy above in their back pocket.

Straight up: Florida State

Points: take Notre Dame (+11)

Move: +2

4. Florida – Georgia should be scared of Florida. But which Florida team will show up: the September team or the one from mid-October? It might not matter if Georgia's defense dominates like it has done all season.

Straight up: Georgia

Points: take Georgia (-2)

Move: +2

3. Georgia – look for Georgia to force Chris Leak to make mistakes. Georgia is comfortable with making the Gators use Leak to beat them. Also, look for Georgia to run the ball more against the Gators. It worked last season, but Richt did not stick with it when the time was right. Georgia's defense is too good to lose this game.

Straight up: Georgia

Points: take Georgia (-2)

Move: same

2. LSU – a cupcake travels to Baton Rouge as LSU wonders why Georgia is getting all of the national title publicity when they beat the Dawgs.

Straight up: LSU

Points: LSU (-26.5)

Move: same

1. Miami – Game of the year for the Canes. Beat the Hokies and there are only small hurdles in between them and New Orleans.

Straight up: Miami

Points: Miami (-4)

Move: none

Dean's lock of the week: Georgia will beat Florida in Jacksonville.

Last week: 8 of 10 (80%)

Season: 18 of 30 (60%)

Lock of the week: 2 for 2 (100%)
