Both offenses managed quick first downs on their opening possessions
only to stall, Georgia losing 17 yards on consecutive sacks and a hold
stalling a UF drive before a missed field goal. A 63-yard punt by
Florida's Eric Wilbur helped the Gators get out of a hole. The teams
combined for only 77 yards on 25 plays.
Key stat: Georgia's offense managed only 27 yards on 15 plays, an
average of 1.8 yards a snap, yet held a 9:20-5:40 time of possession
Georgia had sack problems, thanks to blocking as well as David Greene
simply holding on to the ball way too long. Fred Gibson dropped a second
pass. Tyson Browning left the game late in the quarter, but Kregg Lumpkin was an immediate spark with 21 yards in his first two carries.
UF had to settle for a field goal after a long drive, helped by a tight
unsportsmanlike call against Bruce Thornton on a 3rd-and-9 incompletion,
allowing the Gators to forgo a 45-yard field goal attempt.
Key stat: Greene was sacked four times for 35 yards in losses.

Georgia stayed alive when a Gator was whistled for a facemask on the
play when Damien Gary fumbled a punt deep in Georgia territory. But
again, the Bulldogs did nothing with it and quickly paid. Leak made two
nice reads and throws en route to the first touchdown of the game.
Georgia's defense had trouble stopping UF on a late drive, and the
quarter ended with the Gators on Georgia's 20.
Key stat: Florida outgained Georgia 148-58 in total offense.

UF was held to a field goal, and then the Bulldogs finally punched it
in the end zone, thanks to a big 24-yard Michael Johnson catch. The
Bulldogs had the momentum with a three-and-out UF possession, but had to
settle for another field goal, leaving the door wide open. This being
the UF-UGA game, the Gators walked through it.
Key stat: Leak was 3 for 3 for 45 yards on the game-winning drive.
