Wednesday Practice Notes

ATHENS, Ga. -- The 19th-ranked Georgia football team continued preparations for Saturday's game with Vanderbilt on Wednesday with what Coach Mark Richt called "a good, spirited practice."

The Bulldogs will enter Saturday's 2 p.m. contest in Nashville with a 3-1 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the Southeastern Conference. The Commodores are 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the league.

"I thought our execution overall on offense was pretty good today," Richt said. "When we got into the 11-on-11 drills (offense vs. defense), the players got after it pretty good. I was real happy with the effort today."

Richt said the Bulldogs will have the same captains on Saturday as they did in last week's game with Tennessee -- Verron Haynes on offense, David Jacobs on defense and Jermaine Phillips on special teams.

Richt also announced that linebacker Ryan Fleming, who has been sidelined with a knee injury, likely will see some action against the Commodores. Said Richt, "He's going to play. He's working himself back into shape."

Richt added that linebacker Will Witherspoon did some light running on Wednesday as he recovers from a knee injury. Said Richt, "He's progressing well. He's still out for this week, but there's hope that it won't be too long."

All Georgia football games will be broadcast on Newstalk 750 WSB and the WSB/Georgia Bulldogs Radio Network. (Note: If the Atlanta/Houston baseball playoff series is still going on Saturday, the Georgia football game will be carried on B98.5 FM). Saturday's game will not be televised.
