Alabama at Ole Miss
This is a swing game for both Bama and the Rebels. In order for the Rebels to make a serious push for the West title, this game is a must have. At the same time, Bama realizes that if they can just manage to sting together one more win over Ole Miss that they have a real chance to get back to Atlanta.
There are some interesting things in this series. First of all Bama has won the last 10 meetings between the teams. The last time that Ole Miss beat Bama was in 1988 in Tuscaloosa.
This game features two of the top three offenses in the SEC. The most interesting thing about this matchup is the different styles that both teams use in getting their yards. Bama relies heavily on the run. They are ranked 12th in the nation in total rushing and are the 19th ranked offense in total offense. Ole Miss uses Eli Manning's arm to power its offense. Manning's leadership is helping the Rebels average 276 yards in the air.
This is a tough game to call. You might think that Ole Miss is due, but I don't. If the Rebels are for real, they will win this game. Because I don't feel that they are, I am going with the Tide by 3.
LSU at Kentucky
LSU needs a win real bad. After being beaten up by the likes of Florida and Tennessee, the Tigers are very lucky that their schedule provides them perhaps the worst team in the conference to face. LSU should power past the Cats even though the game is in Lexington.
LSU's offense is simply powerful, however the Tigers have yet to step up in a big game from the full 60 minutes of the game. While the Tiger offense has been outstanding, the Tiger defense leaves a lot to be desired right now. Currently LSU is giving up 449 yards in total defense. That number is second worst in the SEC; the worst? Kentucky.
Of the last five meetings between these two teams, only one have been decided by single digits. LSU wins, by at least two touchdowns.
Troy State at Mississippi State
Not much to talk about here. Bulldogs should get it done. If this game is close at the half, start sounding the alarm, cause at that point we will know that they are some real problems in Starkville.
South Carolina at Arkansas
Interesting game. The reason being that there are plenty of storylines in this game. Holtz used to be the head coach at Arkansas. The Hogs and Cocks still have some personal issues from the last two matchups.
Statically, the Cocks are horrible. However, in terms of won-loss record, you can not argue with the success of the Cocks this season. It is interesting that one statistic is, in my opinion, the reason for the Cocks success. Carolina is leading the SEC in turnover margin. Currently, Carolina is + 8 in the turnover margin, 10th best in the country. It is no surprise that if you are averaging nearly 2 turnovers more than your opponents in each game that you are going to win.
Arkansas is – 3 in the turnover margin, and for that reason, take the Cocks by 10.
Florida at Auburn
The best team in the conference against the team currently acting like the best in the West. Auburn have been very fortunate this season. the Tigers escaped, and I mean escaped Nashville with a win against Vandy. They nearly allowed Ole Miss to come back on them early in the season. And they don't have to play LSU until the end of the season.
However, and that is a big however, Auburn has to play Florida this week. That should take all of the energy out of a fan. Knowing that the best team in the SEC, and perhaps the country, is coming to your place and that they just finished pasting two of your biggest rivals, well, that is not something to be happy about.
In my opinion, and many others out there, Florida is the best team in the country. They are very scary on offense. Grossman throws the ball around like he is playing a high school team. He should be in New York for the Heisman ceremonies.
Florida will win this game and it won't be pretty at the end. Gators by at least (meaning probably more than) 17. The Gators establish that they are the beast team in the country this weekend.
