News and Notes from around Butts Mehre

At one point during the day Georgia officials had to remove a dog from the facility; a dog of the canine variety not of the red and black variety.

Mark Richt spoke with Georgia fans at about 10:30 in the morning. It was his first appearance of the day. Vince Dooley made the rounds twice in the morning. Richt and the rest of his staff were on hand with Mike Bobo and Neil Callaway running a little late. Callaway's cell phone went off during the middle of Richt's speech and he tucked it away in his jacket.

One young fan asked Richt if it was true that A.J. Bryant was as fast and Mike Vick. Richt responded by saying that he wasn't sure. He did know how fast Vick was saying, "We had to chase him around a few years ago," said Richt referring to Florida State's win over Virginia Tech in the 2000 Sugar Bowl.

Rodney Garner spoke with the crowd after Richt. He explained a little bit of the recruiting process that Georgia goes through. Richt indicated that he has the final say in all recurring decisions but that for the most part the position coaches evaluate players and the staff goes from there.

The press conference is slated for 2:30 PM and Richt said that he and the coaches did not plan on speaking with the Butts Mehre audience again today.

The loudest cheer of the day was probably for Stephenson products Josh Johnson and Michael Grant. That was posted for the Butts Mehre crowd at about 11:10 AM.

Richt said that the recruiting was over for this year's class and that the staff could be waiting through the afternoon for the final tally to complete. Richt did indicate, however, that Dawg fans will know the completed list by tonight's basketball game with Ole Miss.
