Auburn scouting report: Notes

Auburn has won three games this season by a total of 8 points. These cats seem to have nine lives. This week the Tigers return to Athens where they have won every game against Georgia since 1993.

The Georgia-Auburn series is the 7th oldest rivalry in the country. It is currently tied with the Oregon-Oregon State series with 104 total games played. Because of the SEC championship game, Auburn and Georgia have the opportunity, unlike any of the other most played rivalries, to extend their rivalry with an extra game each season at the SEC Championship.

The only time that Auburn and Georgia have not played since 1892 was during World War I and World War II.

Georgia has outscored Auburn by one point in the total series tally, but Auburn leads the series 50-46-8.

Auburn is slumping as of late. The Tigers have been outscored by almost twenty points in their past two games. Also the Tigers are only 1-2 on the road with their only win coming against Vandy in late September. The Tigers have lost at Syracuse and at Arkansas.

Even though Auburn lost Rudi Johnson to the NFL, the Tigers are still managing to succeed in running the ball. They are mainly running by committee. Twice an Auburn player has managed over 150 yards against this year. The Tigers did that against Mississippi State and Vandy. State and Vandy are currently ranked in the bottom half of the SEC in rushing defense.

However, the Tigers are currently the 3rd best rushing team in the SEC averaging 166.1 yards per contest.

Defensively, Auburn's best player is Dontarrious Thomas. Thomas has recorded 85 total tackles in 8 games. His high came against Syracuse. In that game he was responsible for 19 total tackles.

The Tigers have intercepted 12 passes this season. Karlos Dansby and Roderick Hood are responsible for three interceptions each and have accounted for 70 yards combined on the returns.

Reggie Torbor and Javor Mills are also troublemakers for the Tigers on defense. Torbot and Mills have combined to have 20 quarterback hurries and nine tackles for loss. DeMarco McNeil is also solid for the Tiger defense. He has pressured the quarterback 9 times and is responsible for 4 tackles for loss. Mills and McNeil play on the defensive line for the Tigers and Torbor is an inside linebacker.
