Lady Dawgs knock off Vols; SEC finals today

After a ho-hum season the Lady Bulldogs get their shot at the SEC Crown. Chances like this have been few and far between. The Lady Dawgs have not been to the SEC finals since 2001. This is their 9th overall appearance in the SEC Tournament finals.

Tennessee has always been Andy Landers' archenemies through the years. He had not beaten them in the SEC Tournament since the early 1990s. But last night was Landers' night.

With seemingly every call going against them, Landers and company knocked off Pat Summit and her Lady Vols in overtime 68-66. Janese Hardrick made a lay-up with a second left in overtime to win the game.

"They made a lot of big plays tonight," said Summit. "They have a lot of great play makers out there. Coach Landers has done a great job."

Landers was impressed with Hardrick's game winning play.

"She had the presence of mind of hitting a big shot," he said. "I know she was setting her mind on how she was going to try to attack this thing."

Georgia goes for its 5th SEC Tournament title and its 12th overall today at 4PM in a rematch of the 2001 SEC finals against Vanderbilt. The game can be seen on ESPN2.

"I know they are going to give me everything that they have," said Landers of today's game.
