Alabama Defeats Georgia 7-5

ATHENS - Alabama catcher Nick Richardson's two-run double broke a 4-4 tie en route to a 7-5 win for the Crimson Tide over the Bulldogs in front of a season-high crowd of 3,321 at Foley Field Saturday.

Alabama (15-6, 1-1 SEC) took advantage of four Georgia errors and seven walks to snap the Bulldogs (15-4, 1-1 SEC) four-game winning streak. Alabama senior Seth Johnson provided 5.2 innings of solid relief to pick up the win while Georgia redshirt freshman Josh McClaughin dropped to 1-1. Johnson surrendered just one run, a solo home run by freshman Josh Morris in the bottom of the ninth, to go with five strikeouts and two walks before giving way to Taylor Tankersley. The left-hander came on to record the final out for his second save.

Georgia built a 3-0 lead through the first two frames as Morris (3-5, 2 RBI) drove in the first run and sophomore Kyle Keen added a two-run home run off Alabama freshman left-hander Wade LeBlanc. Johnscon came on for LeBlanc in the fourth who alled four runs on seven hits.

In the fourth, the Crimson Tide scored four runs on three hits and one Bulldog error to take a 4-3 edge. Right fielder Michael McCallister keyed the rally with a two-run double and Allen Rice and Richardson added RBI off Georgia starter Michael Hyle. Hyle was lifted with one out in the fifth after giving up four runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. McLaughlin followed and gave up two runs on one hit over the next 1.1 innings. He was one of six relief pitchers used by the Bulldogs. Meanwhile, Johnson shut down Georgia until Morris' blast in the ninth, his team-leading 10th of the season.

The series concludes Sunday. CSS will televise the game live beginning at 2:06 pm
