Defensive Lineman Justin Mincey is one of the most sought after players in the Peach State this season, and his Top 5 list reads like a who's who among southern college football programs. Which teams have made the latest cut?
"I like Miami, Alabama, Florida, Auburn, and Georgia. All of them have
offered me in writing except Auburn but when I talked with them today, they said
it was in the mail," Justin Mincey said.
The last time I spoke to Mincey, Florida was his leader and before that
Georgia had the advantage. Is anyone out front now?
"I've been thinking a lot of things. I want to sit back and look at my
options before I name a favorite again."
What stands out about each of his favorites?
Miami: "They put you in the league and I have a lot of kin folk in
Orlando and Miami."
Alabama: "Coach Randolph. The way he explained everything with academics
first, impressed me."
Florida: "I went there for an unofficial trip with my coaches and a
teammate and it seemed like a good school."
Auburn: "Their team is pretty good and they've had a good program."
Georgia: "I was born into it. I like the way they play and I love how
the defense likes to get in there and people out."
Justin has been catching a lot of pressure from the locals in Folkston who
have made it all too apparent where they expect him to be when his high school
days are done.
"Everyone down here loves Georgia even though we practically almost live
in Florida. They always tell me that it's a tradition at Charlton for every big
time player to go to Georgia, and that's just the way it is. I'm not going to
lie I'm a big dawg fan too, but it's different when these schools start
recruiting you. You look at them a different way. I just want to take my
What will be the primary factors that will weigh heaviest on the south GA
prospects mind when he makes his decision?
"It will be primarily for educational reasons when I make my choice.
Right now I'm thinking about biology. I'm also going to keep in mind if the
school is boring I not. I don't want to go to another town like Folkston where
there's not much to do."
Mincey could play any number of positions at the next level but most schools
are currently recruiting him at DE. Does he have a preference?
"I'd like to play defensive end, but it really doesn't matter. I can play
defensive tackle or tight end as well. I just don't want to put on all that
weight and lose my speed."
A whole host of schools have been by Charlton already this year, and Ron Zook
became the latest when he dropped by on Tuesday
