Cooper Having a Big Year

RB Michael Cooper is having a fantastic year.

Running back Michael Cooper is having a fantastic season. His team, Sylvania (Ga.) Screven County High School, is ranked number four in Class AAA as they enter the playoffs with a perfect 10-0 record. Mr. Cooper is a big reason why. He has rushed the ball 203 times for 2,023 yards and has scored 31 touchdowns.

"The difference for me this season was being prepared," said Cooper. "Everything was predicated on what I did in the off season with conditioning and weight training. I worked hard and it has paid off. Plus, I stayed healthy. We also changed up the offense a little. Now we are multiple and doing a little of everything."

Cooper, 6-1 and 215 pounds, injured an ankle half way through his senior year and was not the same back the rest of that season. As for recruiting, Cooper took his first official visit this month and came home very impressed.

"I visited LSU (11-10). I wasn't that thrilled about going to Baton Rouge but their coaches talked me into it. I loved it. The game day atmosphere is incredible, the city of Baton Rouge was great and the people are so nice. I met everyone on the team. I went there skeptical but I came home pleasantly surprised. I really like LSU."

Cooper is scheduled to visit Maryland (December 7), Georgia Tech (January 4), Florida (January 110 and Clemson (January 18). "I also like Georgia and I may visit them unofficially or visit UGA instead of Maryland. I have not decided yet."
