Short on Playing Time, Long on Talent

Roderick Battle is a 6'4, 245 pound defensive end that plays for a loaded Douglass High School team in Atlanta. Battle transferred into Douglass last year and only played in the first two games due to a rule that prevented him from playing more. Despite the lack of playing time, he still has picked up five big time offers!

"I wasn't expecting all this attention after playing just the first two games last year," said Roderick Battle. "I am kind of blown away by all of this. I am going to take this process slow and take it all in."

Despite a limited amount of playing time thus far, Battle has already picked up five offers.

"Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Alabama have offered me so far. Most of the schools in the South are recruiting me. I get some letters from schools out of that region, but mostly it is the SEC and ACC schools giving me attention."

What are Battle's plans for the summer?

"I have already camped at Auburn and Clemson. I don't really have anymore camps planned, but I do plan to take unofficial visits to Georgia, Vanderbilt and Alabama."

With five offers already out there, does Battle have a top five?

"My top five are the same five that have offered me. If and when I receive more that could change, but right now it is those five."

What sticks out about those five other than the offers?

Georgia - "Home state school and they are a dominant team now and look to be in the future"
Clemson - "I have a lot of respect for Coach Bowden. He also impressed me at the camp when talking to him one on one."
Auburn - "Auburn has had great teams in the past, and they offer early playing time"
Vanderbilt - "Great Academics and I have family in Nashville"
Alabama - "Tradition and my defensive line coach coach is a Bama Graduate"

Battle is not ready to name a leader, but he does reveal what he'll be looking for in the school he chooses...

"I am looking for Coaching stability as well as the personalities, both the teams and the coaching staff's."

Will distance be a factor for Mr. Battle?

"Distance is no concern for me. It will not factor into my decision at all. I want my family to be able to see me play, but I have to do what's best for me also."

Roderick Battle is defensive end right now in High School, but he says coaches are telling him he could end up at defensive tackle in college. He is open to the change, and he says he'll do whatever they ask him too.

Playing in only two games last year, Battle didn't have a chance to do much on the field. This year Battle says, "I want to help lead this team to the State Championship and record 15 sacks at defensive end."

Roderick is in great shape academically. He carries a 3.5 GPA, scored a 970 on the SAT and has passed all the required graduation tests.
