South Hot 100 Members a Package Deal?
"We're kind of a package deal right now," said McElrathbey.
Package deals are often spoken about, but they rarely happen, but they usually don't include athletes of the caliber of McElrathbey and Thomas. Both are members of the South Hot 100 at corner (The list will be updated this week to reflect Thomas' new position).
"It's just nice to be able to go somewhere where you know someone," said Thomas.
Standing with both of them Sunday afternoon, I knew that Georgia was once a big player with Thomas, but he seemed to have cooled on the Bulldogs. Why?
"They're just loaded everywhere. It seemed like they were three deep everywhere at their spring game, and the recruits hadn't even gotten there yet. Right now we'd both like to go to Florida. We're camping there on July 10th and 11th. If not Florida then maybe Clemson."
"It's really a race between Florida and Clemson," said McElrathbey. "Florida said they've seen enough film, but they tell me they have an offer for me if I come to camp. The coaches at Florida tell me they want to see me in person just one time."
Later that afternoon, Georgia's depth chart at corner took a hit with the news that Michael Grant will be attending Arkansas this year instead of Georgia. Knowing that depth at wide receiver and corner was working against Georgia when they were previously high on Thomas' list, I asked him the logical question if Grant's departure would make a difference in how he viewed Georgia.
"Grant is going to Arkansas? Wow. Yeah, that would definitely help out Georgia."
Thomas is open to play either wide receiver or corner, and McElratheby shared the same sentiments. Both are relatively new at the position, but both almost parroted each other when asked what position they wanted to play.
"I'll play whatever gets me on the field first," they said almost simultaneously.
Thomas and McElrathbey will be at Florida's camp in two weeks, and the Gators look like the team to beat right now, but don't count out Clemson, and Georgia is still there lurking.
