Rebels must get Eli's replacement ready

HOOVER, AL – At the end of the day, Ole Miss must replace the most valuable player in all of the Southeastern Conference from last season. It will not be easy.

Coming off the most successful season in Ole Miss football in some time, Head Coach David Cutcliffe said today that replacing number one NFL pick Eli Manning will be difficult to do.

"Eli Manning on the field is hard to replace," he said.

"He did an outstanding job in leadership. He will be harder to replace the playing on the field," he said.

Michael Spurlock will replace Manning at the quarterback spot. Spurlock in entering his fourth season at Oxford, but he has never seen any signifigant playing time. Cutcliffe said that studying under Manning will help Spurlock get ready for the rigors of the SEC.

"Eli helped Spurlock for three years," the head coach said. But Cutcliffe conceded that replacing Manning will be much easier said than done: "Any time you replace a quarterback that has been a three year starter; that is always an issue."
