North Hall High School had only two winning seasons in before 2001. Since 2001, Coach Christmas has taken over and led North Hall to three straight winning seasons. Along with Christmas' coaching, the Trojans have been lead by 2003 Hall County Player of the Year, T.J. Pitts. As a junior, Pitts had 1,807 yards on 184 carries and 22 touchdowns.
"North Carolina, Middle Tennessee State, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Memphis have offered me. All of them are written offers also," said Pitts.
What other schools could be on the verge of offering Pitts?
"Georgia, Clemson, Auburn, Maryland and South Carolina are recruiting me the hardest outside of the schools that offered. I am getting letters and mail from a lot of schools, but those five stick out and are on me very hard."
"What does Pitts feel he does well, and, on the other hand, what does he want to improve on?
"Speed and quickness are definitely my biggest strengths. I also think I have real good vision and can find the holes. I want to improve on getting more yards after contact and just getting stronger."
Is he ready to name a top five?
"Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Florida and Florida State are my early favorites."
With schools like Virginia Tech, Virgina and North Carolina recruiting Pitts, does he see distance being a factor in his recruitment?
"Nah, not really. I am open to it and it will not be a big factor for me."
What will factor into his decision when time arrives?
"Coaching style, coaching stability and playing time. I don't have a problem red-shirting, but I don't want to go somewhere that I won't get playing time for three or four years. I just want to be given an opportunity within my first couple years."
Pitts is a quick and strong running back as he puts up these numbers in the weight room. 330 pounds on the bench, squats 435 pounds, power cleans 320 pounds and has a 34" vertical leap.
Academically, Pitts carries a 2.7 GPA and will take the SAT for the first time in October.
Mr. Pitts is someone you recruitniks may want to keep an eye on this fall. He is a shifty and explosive runner and I expect a lot more offers to come his way as we get into the 2004 season.
