All-South DT Has 22 Offers

Central Georgia star Brandon Perry has been one of the more difficult prospects to track down in the class of '05. I finally was able to catch up with the All-South DT this weekend, and he spoke candidly about his favorite teams, summer camps and injuries among other things.

"I'm up to 22 offers now. I don't really have any favorites but I'm looking at Georgia, Florida State, Florida, Nebraska and Miami. All of them have offered me a scholarship," Brandon Perry said.

What stands out about each of those teams?

Georgia: "It's a good school and a real good team. They are well known and they have a lot of defensive linemen in the NFL."

Florida State: "I like Coach Hagins. He is straight up with me and doesn't tell me nothing I don't need to know. He isn't going to say anything negative about anyone."

Florida: "Florida and pretty much all the schools down there are always in the big dance. They also put a lot of guys in the NFL."

Nebraska: "I don't really know that much but their coaches want me to take a trip out there. I've talked to some people and they said it's a nice place."

Miami: "I like their coaching staff in Miami. They have a lot of talented players as well."

Brandon attended one camp this summer and it was in Athens, GA. What were the highlights of the trip?

"They really get after it up there. They have a good staff and the dorms are unbelievable. I got to meet David Pollack and man, that's a role-model right there. He's someone all football players should look up to."

What is Perry looking for most in a school?

"First of all is a good education. I haven't decided on a major yet but I guess I need to be doing that soon," he laughed. "I'm looking for good people around me also"

The Hawkinsville standout ran into some injury trouble at the end of last season.

"I had surgery after the year was over on my left thumb. I tore some ligaments from the bone in our playoff game against Miller County but I just played through it. I've really had some tough luck with my thumbs. In the 6th grade I had to get surgery on right thumb when I broke it then."

Defending single-A State Champion Hawkinsville, will host AAA semifinalist Washington County, this Friday night in the season opener. What are the big DT's thoughts on that much anticipated contest?

"No matter who you face, you always have to play hard. We ain't gonna lay down for anybody. That just ain't us. I know they're good and were the defending state champions, but this is a new year. None of that stuff matters anymore."

I'm happy to report that I'll get to attend that game in just a short 5 days, along with thousands of other interested on-lookers.

TheInsiders will keep you notified of the latest on Brandon Perry right up through signing day.
