Catching up with Georgia's #1 Prospect

Tray Blackmon is the number one prospect in Georgia, and he has helped lead his LaGrange team to some big early wins. Blackmon talks a little about his future including an official visit this weekend and his favorite school.

Linebacker Tray Blackmon is one of the best defensive players in the entire country, if not the best player. He has helped lead his LaGrange team to a 4-0 start over a couple of very impressive opponents including then Top 5 ranked Newnan in 5A and traditional 4A power now in 3A Shaw who was ranked #2 going into Friday's action.

LaGrange gets a well deserved week off this weekend, and Blackmon and several of his teammates are headed to Kentucky for their official visits.

"I'm going to Kentucky this weekend," said Blackmon. "I'm going up there with Demoreo (Demoreo Ford) and Braxton (Braxton Kelly).

When asked about his favorites, Blackmon mentioned a familiar name.

"Georgia is my favorite. I grew up in Georgia. They have great coaches and a great team."

When asked about a player he admires, Blackmon chose the player I most often compare him to... another #10.

"I like Thomas Davis at Georgia. I just like being physical; I like the contact."

When will Blackmon make a decision?

"I want to take a couple of my visits first; then I'll probably decide."

Head Coach Steve Pardue had just as many good things to say about Blackmon, but the one statement he made that impressed me as much as any had to do with Blackmon's academics.

"He had a 4.0 last semester and he has three A's right now," said Pardue.

Coach Pardue, Blackmon and the rest of the Granger team won a State Championship last year, and for the moment, it appears as if everyone else is playing for second place in 3A this year, but there is a long way to go.

Blackmon is in no hurry to make a college decision either, but like the state championship, his commitment to the Georgia Bulldogs almost looks inevitable at this time.
