Donovan Baldwin is another commitment the Bulldogs have picked up from the rich state of Florida this year. Baldwin gave the Dawgs his verbal pledge a couple weeks ago.
Baldwin was not a very well known recruit, but Georgia saw something they really
liked when he camped in Athens back in July. They saw something good enough to
offer him and Baldwin took them up on that offer.
Baldwin decided to come on up to his future home for the next four years and
take his official visit this past weekend. What were his thoughts on Athens and
will he visit any other schools?
"I had a good time up there," said Baldwin.
"I love the atmosphere and the surroundings. It was all nice."
What are some of the things that really stuck with Baldwin during his trip?
"There are so many things. It is hard to keep it short."
"The number one thing that will probably stay with me for a very long
time is in the locker room before the game. The players all go into the showers,
turn off the lights and say the Lord's prayer. That gave me chills. It was
"I also got a chance to sit down and eat dinner with Coach Van Gorder
and Coach Martinez after the game. I had a lot of fun with that. It was a chance
to see them and talk to them outside of football."
"On Sunday, I got the chance to tour the campus and it went pretty well.
I got to see the dorms and they were just, just hard to explain. They were very
impressive. I also hung out with my host, Tra Battle and a lot of other players
(Greg Blue, Thomas Davis, Demario Minter & Tim Jennings) to hit the scene in
downtown Athens. I had a lot of fun with those guys. They made me feel like part
of the team. I finished up my trip with a good talk with Coach Richt and that
was a great way to end the visit."
What other recruits did Baldwin talk to?
"I met some of the other commitments like, Joe Cox, Mohamed Massaquoi,
and I was there with Mike Moore. We live about ten minutes apart from one
"I hung out with Antonio Clay and Mike Garvin who were on their official
visits to Georgia also."
Will this visit be the last for Mr. Baldwin?
"This will be the only visit I take. I am committed to the Bulldogs one
Donovan Baldwin will play cover corner for the Dawgs, but lines up at safety
for American Heritage High School. On the year, Baldwin has 30 plus tackles,
four interceptions (1 returned for touchdown) and two kick offs returned (95 and
97 yards) for touchdowns.
Baldwin looks to be solid to Georgia, but if anything changed you could find
