Florida LB Names Final 4 with a Leader

Florida prospect Jamar Chaney is a player that many schools have targeted on the defensive side of the football for the class of 2005. He only has 4 teams left in consideration for his signature though. Who are they?

"I still like Georgia, Maryland, Tennessee and Miami. If I had to pick a leader it would be Georgia though. All of them have offered except for Miami," Jamar Chaney said.

What has placed the Dawgs on top?

"I had a good time at camp up there this summer and they were one of the first schools to offer me. I liked the atmosphere and facilities they had. Coach Van Gorder is one of the top coaches in the country and he knows how to get the best out of you."

What does he prefer about the other teams on his list?

Maryland: "They have a linebacker named Jackson and another named E.J. Henderson that are both really good. Their coaches seem like really cool people."

Tennessee: "They win a lot of games every year and they're losing 2 linebackers this year so I would have a good opportunity to play if I went there."

Miami: "If you live in south Florida, you're going to like Miami. They have a lot of competition in practice and a lot of good players."

With the Dawgs on top as the frontrunner for quite a while now, has Chaney contemplated committing early?

"I've been tempted to commit, but I want to take about 3 or 4 visits and see other places before I decide. I've set one up to Maryland for December 17th, but that's the only one I've scheduled so far."

What is he looking for most in a school?

"I'm looking at the overall football program and then how long it will take me to get in the rotation really."

Chaney has been a standout on the gridiron in this his final season as a high school player.

"It's going pretty good. We've only played 5 games but were 4-1. We only have 1 game left before the playoffs due to the hurricanes, but I've got 52 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and 1 INT for a touchdown."
