One Team Pulling Away

Roderick Battle is a defensive lineman out of Atlanta, Ga. that could play inside or outside on the college level. That versatility along with his size and academics has made him become one of the hottest recruits in the south. One team seems to be pulling away in the race for his signature.

Roderick Battle has had bad luck this year when it comes to taking unofficial visits. He and the Douglass Astros (11-1) have played all but two games on Saturday this year. Even when they were supposed to play on Friday, and he planned to take a visit somewhere, mother nature (Hurricane Francis) pushed it back to Saturday.

The one Saturday he had open he traveled to Georgia and he had this Saturday circled on his calendar for a long time to visit Auburn, but again, he has a game on Saturday. Only this time, it is a good reason…the playoffs, where Douglass will host Valdosta.

"I would much rather be playing in the playoffs, than already have been eliminated and have this Saturday free," said Battle.

Does he plan to reschedule the trip to the plains?

"Probably, but I am not sure when."

Three teams (Clemson, Georgia and Auburn) have been the main players in the Roderick Battle sweepstakes to this point, but it looks like one team may be pulling away.

"Georgia is definitely my leader. They have been for a while now. It is really between them and Auburn. I planned to visit Auburn this weekend and I hoped to have my decision, but now I am not sure."

What is it that has separated Georgia from the pack?

"I am just so comfortable around there with the Coaches and the town of Athens. Those are two big reasons why they lead."

So, with another trip postponed, when could Battle have a decision?

"I am not really sure now, it is hard to say."

Roderick Battle has an official visit set up with Georgia on the weekend of January 14. He has talked with Coach Price of Auburn about an official visit the following weekend on the 21st, but nothing is final on that yet.

Before any of his visits are taken, Battle will first lead Douglass up against one of most historic high school football programs in the country, Valdosta.
