Georgia Picks Up 2 Huge Commitments

Douglass High School in Atlanta, GA has about seven legitimate division one prospects this year that will sign their letter of intent on February 2, 2005. The first Astro to make his choice was Jason Hill who chose North Carolina a few weeks ago. The next two have decided to stay home and play for the Dawgs. Brandon Sesay and Roderick Battle comment on why they chose to become Georgia Bulldogs.

"What excites me about becoming a Bulldog the most is knowing I will have a chance to play for a National Championship," said Roderick Battle.

Brandon Sesay and Roderick Battle played defensive end at Douglass this year. Both players are big, strong, quick, athletic and versatile. With all those things combined, either one could play end or even move to the interior at Georgia. Did the fact that Georgia hasn't signed many defensive linemen in the last couple years and their isn't a lot of depth there play into their decision?

"It had a little to do with it. It only helps the situation knowing that you have a chance to come in compete right away," said Sesay.

Sesay added, "The main reasons I chose Georgia though were not the depth charts. I just feel like Athens is my home away from home. I love the way the defensive line plays there and how Coach Garner coaches them up. Coach Garner is a cool guy and has let me know how bad they want me. Another thing that made it that much easier was that I know my boy (Roderick) Battle will be there too."

Roderick Battle has been wrestling with his commitment for some time now. When did he first start to feel that Georgia was pulling away from the pack?

"I have been keeping up with Georgia for about the last five years. I knew they were the home state team and I have always been interested in them. After I went to Georgia for the Tennessee game this year was when they really pulled away. I was ready to commit after that game, but decided to wait a little longer."

A little longer is now and Battle couldn't wait anymore…

"I am committed to The Georgia Bulldogs," said Battle.

The main competition for Georgia with Battle was Auburn. He also had some interest in Clemson and Alabama, but he chose The Dawgs over Auburn when it came down to making his choice.

Sesay was somewhat of a surprise commitment this soon. He has been favoring Georgia for about a month or so now, but always said he would wait a while and take some visits. When I got home Monday evening though, their was a message from Brandon Sesay.

It said, "I'm a Bulldog baby. I am ready to commit to Georgia and become a Bulldog."

Sesay was still looking at a host of schools before making his decision, like Minnesota, Alabama, Auburn and Clemson to name a few.

Both Battle and Sesay have official visits set with Georgia in January. There is a slim chance both may take another visit or two, but as of now the only one is to Georgia.

Both of these four star defensive lineman project to be fully qualified.

Both Roderick Battle and Brandon Sesay made their commitments tonight on Countdown to Signing Day. If you missed it, you can watch the replay Friday night at 11pm or Saturday morning at 11am.
