Bulldogs to play in Outback Bowl

ATHENS - The seventh-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (9-2) were extended, and accepted, an Outback Bowl invitation Tuesday to face Wisconsin (9-2) of the Big Ten in Tampa, Fla., Jan. 1. Kickoff is set for 11:00 a.m. ET.

It will be only the second meeting between Georgia and Wisconsin. The two teams met in the 1998 Outback Bowl, won by Georgia, 33-6. The Bulldogs have played in Tampa in three previous post-season games: 1986 Hall of Fame Bowl (lost to Boston College, 27-24); 1998 Outback Bowl (def. Wisconsin, 33-6); and 2000 Outback Bowl (defeated Purdue, 28-25 in overtime).

"I'm certainly happy with the selection of our team to represent the Southeastern Conference in the Outback Bowl," said Georgia Director of Athletics Damon Evans. "We have had an outstanding experience in Tampa on three previous occasions and I know our fans will be excited about returning to what is one of the country's most attractive bowl sites."

"I'm really happy for our team and especially our seniors," said UGA head coach Mark Richt. "We have the opportunity to play on New Year's Day, to play a quality opponent in Wisconsin, to finish the season with ten wins and in the top ten in the final ranking. I know our team will be committed to the preparation necessary to play what I know is a very tough Wisconsin team which has a very rich football tradition and an established national reputation. I also want to encourage our fans to give us the same support in this game that they have demonstrated all year long. They have been, and are, an essential part of whatever success we are able to achieve."
