UGA athletes involved in alleged sexual assault

At least two University of Georgia student-athletes were involved in an alleged rape and attempted rape at McWhorter Hall Monday night.

The athletes have not been named but apparently play different sports.

Georgia associate athletics director Claude Felton said "the appropriate head coaches are aware of the situation.''

Felton told The Athens Banner-Herald: "There was an incident at McWhorter Hall and there were student-athletes involved.''

No arrests were made Tuesday.

A female student told Athens police she was raped by a man she knows between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday. She said another man she did not know attempted to rape her at the dorm, which houses student-athletes and other students.

The woman notified police of the alleged attacks about 1 a.m. Tuesday, and she was examined at the Athens-Clarke Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner facility.

Several football players contacted Tuesday night said they were not aware of any incident at the dorm. All players were present at the men's basketball practice Tuesday.

Felton told the Athens paper the athletic department would await the conclusion of the police investigation.
