Washington Ready to "Crush" Someone

Marcus Washington forever endeared himself to the Bulldog faithful when he became their first commitment in the class of '05. We caught up the big Mike LB for an update on his current state of affairs.

"Right now I'm playing basketball and still doing some workouts for football. When coach Van Gorder saw me the first time, I was 215lbs and he offered me then. Now I'm 231lbs, so I'm getting myself ready to play early," Marcus Washington said

When Marcus thinks about reporting to Athens, what's the first thing that pops into his head?

"I think about Saturdays. I can't wait to step out there in front of 92,000 loving Georgia fans. Just stepping out there and crushing a Florida Gator or a Tennessee Vol, especially a Florida Gator."

Why are the Gators at the top of his list?

"They've just given Georgia some fits over the last few years up until last season, and we want to continue to put an end to that."

Has Washington had the chance to meet his new position coach, John Jancek?

"I talked to him a couple of weeks go and I like him a lot. He told me he heard a lot about me and that he couldn't wait to see me. He has a pretty good coaching background. He played for Van Gorder so he knows the system that's already there. It won't change."

How did the reassurance of knowing the defensive scheme will remain the same sound to Marcus?

"It made me feel a whole lot better. If it was going to be a change in that scheme, I didn't know where I fit in but from talking with Van Gorder he said I fit in perfectly at middle linebacker for the system they already had."

Does Marcus feel he'll get a chance to play early?

"It's an open position really. I have an opportunity to go in and compete and we'll see what happens after that."
